OUR STORY

What inspires us

Stories are the lifeblood of community, bringing us together and fostering connection.

Folktales, by definition, are stories that are passed down through oral tradition. Though often mistaken for Fairytales, Folktales reflect real-world settings and events and teach lessons through a more realistic approach.

We are simply fascinated by folklore, and how stories are as unique to each region as flavours and ingredients. That's why we take our inspiration from the land to create ciders that are not only delicious but also tell a story.

We offer four of our ciders in 355ml cans, each with a custom label depicting a Folktale illustrated by the talented local artist Liz Ranney.

Curious minds can learn more about these local legends below:

n Ì“xÌŒaxÌŒaitkÊ·

also known as:

NAITAKA, OGOPOGO

OKANAGAN LAKE

origin:

The Secwepemc and Syilx peoples regarded n Ì“xÌŒaxÌŒaitkÊ·, as a sacred spirit of the lake that protects the valley. In local lore, Naitaka demanded a live sacrifice for safe crossing of the lake.

Few locals know the Ogopogo by it's original name. in fact, Oggy wasn't given it's nickname until 1924, when strains of an English music-hall song were first heard in Vernon, BC.

His mother was an earwig,

His father was a whale;

A little bit of head

And hardly any tail—

And Ogopogo was his name.

Leshy

also known as:

BOROVOI, LESOVIK

SLAVIC EUROPE

origin:

Leshy is a guardian of the forest in Slavic mythology

Leshy is reputed for his inclination to misguide wanderers and abduct young ones. Leshy's attitude towards humans can vary, depending on how they interact with the forest and their overall behavior.

Sásq'ets

also known as:

SASQUATCH, BIGFOOT

NORTH AMERICA

origin:

Sasquatch is featured in both American and Canadian folklore, and since the mid-20th century has grown into a cultural icon, permeating popular culture and becoming the subject of its own distinct subculture.

Folklorists trace the phenomenon of Bigfoot to a combination of factors and sources, including the European wild man figure, folk tales, and indigenous cultures.

If you have not visit the Sasquatch museum in Harrison, BC, we highly recommend the road trip!

Le Petit Chaperon Rouge

also known as:

LITTLE RED RIDING HOOD

EUROPEAN

origin:

Little Red Riding Hood may just be the most popular folktale of all time.

The origins can be traced to several pre-17th century versions from various European countries. Some of these are significantly different from the currently known, Grimms-inspired version.

In 10th century France, the antagonist was not always a wolf, but sometimes a 'bzou' (werewolf), making these tales relevant to the werewolf trials (similar to witch trials) of the time.

"A folktale can never be forgotten because it wriggles and rearranges until is sits neatly on the heart. It is fluid and changing, able to adapt to whatever setting it finds itself in. It shifts in the mouth of every teller and adapts to the shape of each listeners ear."
